Lesson for 5/17/09

Lesson Overview
Biblical Passage: Acts 15:1–21
Supporting Passages: Amos 9:11–12; Acts 14:27; Romans 10:12; Galatians 2:11–12
Memory Verse: Acts 15:15
Biblical Truth: Scriptural wisdom should be used to settle disputes.
Context: James, the brother of Jesus and a leader in the Jerusalem church, was a strong advocate of the close relationship between faith and action. In this first of several lessons about the connection of faith and action, James uses Scripture to support the truth that salvation is by faith alone. This faith is not relegated to one particular group of people. All who believe, whether Jews or Gentiles, can be consecrated for God’s purposes by believing in Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world.
Learning Goals:
Students will understand that a consecrated life means drawing people together to do the right thing.
Students will apply the example of James to their lives by determining how to handle conflict.
